"The Art of Printing and Stories from the Minden Times" is a special double feature: Natalia Brown shares her passion for letterpress printing, followed by Jack Brezina’s reflections on his time managing the Minden Times newspaper.
Natalia Brown has always had a love and appreciation for fine stationery and analogue writing tools—think wax seals, fountain pens, and typewriters. When she discovered letterpress printing, she was instantly obsessed. After acquiring two antique printing presses, lovingly named ‘Chuck’ and ‘Freddy Prints Jr.’, Natalia has been creating products born from a personal need to find the perfect card for life events—or for someone with a niche sense of humour, leading to stationery with a delightful blend of sweet greetings, dry wit, and passive aggressive cheekiness.
Jack moved to Minden from Cochrane, Ontario when he bought The Times newspaper in June 1979 from Grenville Stamp and Ron Gambell. He managed the paper until May 2001, when it was sold to Len Pizzey, owner of the Echo. Along the way—as publisher, editor, reporter, photographer, delivery person, and more—he experienced many twists and turns, all of them interesting... and mostly fun, as is often the case with running a small-town weekly newspaper.
Admission is by donation. No pre-registration is required. The Cultural Centre is located at 176 Bobcaygeon Road, Minden, Ontario, and is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
