Join us for a special screening of Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story (2024) at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre. Please note that the event takes place on Tuesday, August 19 at 12:30 PM, instead of the usual screening time on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. 

Directed by Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee, the documentary explores the life and legacy of Jackie Shane, a pioneering Black transgender soul singer who rose to fame in 1960s Toronto. Told in Shane’s own voice, the film combines rare audio, rotoscope animation, and new music. Executive produced by Elliot Page, the film has received critical acclaim at festivals across North America. 

Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. No pre-registration is required. The documentary is provided courtesy of the National Film Board (NFB). Presented in partnership with the Haliburton County Public Library as part of Pride in the Highlands’ events.
