Join us for a special screening of Angry Inuk (2016) at the Minden Hills Cultural Centre on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Angry Inuk (2016), directed by Inuk filmmaker Alethea Arnaquq-Baril, challenges widespread misconceptions about the Inuit seal hunt and critiques the impact of international anti-sealing campaigns on Inuit communities. It highlights how these campaigns have adversely affected the economic and cultural sustainability of Inuit people, despite exemptions for Indigenous hunters in legislation like the European Union's ban on seal products. The film features Inuit voices, including lawyer and activist Aaju Peter—who spoke at the “Telling Our Stories” Speaker Series in November 2024—highlighting the importance of seal hunting for survival. It also follows Inuit youth using social media and international platforms to challenge stereotypes. Angry Inuk has won multiple awards, including the Audience Award at Hot Docs 2016.
Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. No pre-registration is required. The documentary is provided courtesy of the National Film Board (NFB).
